The word "private server" has negative connotations, however. Given the amount of RS Gold interest and the amount of updates OSRS has, I'm not sure it's right to consider it any other than equal to RS3 in the sense the concept of "RuneScape". It's true that there are RSPSs that have been active longer than OSRS as well as receiving updates on a regular basis, aren't you? It's not a problem if you observe otherwise. It's just an opinion.
I'm referring to RS3 players do exactly the same things as OSRS (see comments on this page for some examples). I never understood the battle between players of both games. Let everyone play the game that they love the most. Each game has its unique strengths and flaws. It shouldn't, however, be an unofficial competition.
Additionally, the story that some people tell here as if the vast majority of OSRS community feels this way is extremely gruelling, and I'm sure that most of us are not sceptical about RS at all (or even better, with the most optimal experience in the world). A great example is how time-tested OSRS streamer Sick Nerd started playing and streaming RuneScape again last year and his success was impressive in by doing this, sustaining and expanding his viewers that he accumulated by playing Old School. Streaming RuneScape during those months was his most successful period on Twitch during the past few years in terms of viewers and subscribers if I'm not incorrect.
I'm sure not everyone in OSRS thinks this and part of it is just a flimsy meme but the worst part of their group tends to be the loudest and most obvious. Both games have been played often, with hundreds of hours on rs3 gold each. The constant fights between the hardheaded within the community just gets me. Both games are excellent by themselves however ignorance doesn't help one.
