Hurricane Delta made landfall Friday evening at Creole, Louisiana.
The powerful storm maintained its strength as a Category 2 hurricane and hit with sustained winds clocked at 100 miles per hour and gusts up to 125.
This landfall makes Delta the 10th named storm to hit the U.S. this season, which has never happened before according to current records. It is also the earliest named Delta storm on record, as 2020 continues to re-write the history books. This hurricane also marks the first time a Greek alphabet named storm has made landfall in the United States.
Hurricane force winds, flash flooding and life-threating storm surge all continue to pound the Gulf Coast. Residents there are no stranger to the destructive power of 2020 tropical storms. This is just six weeks after Hurricane Laura made landfall over the same area as a major Category 4 hurricane.
