During the stream they discussed their thoughts on the Diablo 4 battle pass (around the 39:15 mark in the video below) and also the upcoming seasons in the game. "It's essential for us to ensure that we are balancing those things you'll see when you play the game" Piepiora explained, "the way that they're engaging but also fair. We don't wish to have any situations where players are able to feel that they're paid to win. "To create a clear distinction in between battle passes and the seasons in Diablo 4, Piepiora explained that "the season's story is still an integral part of Diablo 4, in the same way you experienced it when you played Diablo 3." The chapter-based mechanic will offer players many goals throughout the season and will let them to earn in-game rewards on their own characters. "All of the seasonal content is free. It's not tied to the battle pass itself," Shely adds.

In order to help clarify any confusion Shely clarified that when Diablo 4 launches on June 6 2023, 2023, it will not be launched immediately following season one. "Season one will launch several weeks after the release of the game, and once season one is launched it will all start simultaneously, and everybody will be on an equal starting point," the developer said.
