Sunitinib is an anticancer medication also known by the brand name Sutent. It is used in the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumours and renal cell cancer. It is a receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Sunitinib interferes with the working of receptor tyrosine kinase which is necessary for cancer cell growth. It also stops certain factors which help in the formation of blood vessels. As a result, this medication inhibits cell proliferation and stops the spreading of tumour cells to other parts of the body. Additionally, it also inhibits the formation of blood vessels and hence, decreases the blood supply of cancer cells. Sunitinib 50mg capsule is given orally with or without a meal.
